Swamini Sugunanda

Pujya Swamini Sugunanandaji is one of the senior most acharyas of Chinmaya Mission in Karnataka. Although short in physical stature she is a gigantic personality capable of inspiring everyone who comes near her. Coming from a devout family Pujya Amma has undergone all the turmoil and sufferings in her poorvashram days. But the seed of adhyatmic foundation which perhaps must have been the result some past Samsara helped her and she took up to the philosophical life quite late in her life. But as the saying goes, “There is no age limitation for a sincere student”. An accidental meeting in 1985 with Pujya Gurudev at Chennai airport was not only the turning point in her life but also total surrender at first sight when she chose him as her spiritual Guru. But it took some more time for her desire to fructify and it was only in 1988 that Gurudev accepted her in the Sandeepany and she was tutored by none other than the senior most acharya of the Mission today, Pujya Swami Purushottamanandaji (who blessed us all on the inauguration day). In a span of just two years she mastered all the scriptures and after getting deeksha, she has served the Mission in various centres notable among them being Chokkahalli, Kolar district. She has spent most of her time in Indiranagar where she has trained several batches of Vedic chanting students. Her Balvihar classes are very popular and many children trained by her are today working in lucrative posts. She is a great inspirer and has to her credit several icons who have drawn inspiration from her. The legendary cricketer and former captain of team India, Rahul Dravid is an ardent devotee of Amma and never fails to seek her blessings when he is in Bangalore. We all know that Team India is now occupying the no.1 slot in ICC ratings and this has been possible because they have been slowly built by a team of innovative captains with Rahul Dravid playing a pivotal role. Pujya Amma’s bhajans and chantings are very popular and most Balavihar Sevaks in Bangalore look at her for guidance. Her Yajnas and Satsangs reveal her immense knowledge and deep introspection. She contributes regularly to the Chinmaya magazines and her articles are eagerely awaited by ardent seekers. Pujya Amma is right now guiding seekers from our Sripaadakshetra centre, J P Nagar, Bangalore
